February & March set record high ocean temperatures

Monthly mean surface temperature records were broken in February and March. The February 2015 monthly mean was 2.99 C above the 100-year February average since records began in 1916. The March 2015 monthly mean was 3.05 C above the average for that month.

February mean bottom temperature also set a record high of 2.77 C above the February average since records began in 1926.

These data are collected as part of the Shore Stations Program and are currently funded by the California Parks and Recreation, Department of Boating and Waterways. Daily measurements are collected by Staff Aquarists and volunteers with the Birch Aquarium at Scripps.
